Fashion ebbs and flows, but a quality leather motorcycle jacket lasts forever.
The leather jacket has it's roots in aviation going back to WWI. During the big WWII, leather "bomber jackets" became the rage. They often incorporated sheepskin, with the fleece still intact on the inside, and were prized for their warmth.
The Hollywood treatment of the leather motorcycle jacket in the later part of the 20th century elevated it to Icon status. Leather jackets are prominently featured in films like The Wild Ones, and in the television show, Happy Days, (Fonzie's leather motorcycle jacket is now part of the Smithsonian)
